Alec Sloane is an American composer, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and educator based in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
Initially embarking on his musical path as a singer-songwriter, Alec discovered his love for classical music as a young adult, which deeply inspired him to pursue in his undergraduate studies. Under the tutelage of Dr. Francois Rose, Dr. Robert Coburn, and Dr. Eric Wood, Alec graduated magna cum laude from University of the Pacific with a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition. Alec has written works for soloists, chamber ensembles, saxophone quartets, electric cello, and orchestra. His works are greatly influenced by the spectral school of compositions and focus heavily on creating timbral landscapes inhabited by strong melodic characters. As a strong proponent of new music, Alec has collaborated with various new music ensembles, as well as working for venues like the Center for New Music in San Francisco, California.
As an educator, Alec is passionate about bringing creativity into the lives of students through collaboration, exploration, and finding joy in the process of creating music. Alec has taught group classes on music theory, songwriting, and computer music composition, as well as private lessons on piano, guitar and mandolin. His most recent publication, Exploring Music, uses a unique method of translating visual representations of notes into traditional staff notation, making the learning process of note reading memorable for students.
As a singer-songwriter, Alec regularly performs around the Bay Area. Keeping up with his first passion, Alec has released solo EPs and albums with his duo, Big Brave Dog. His students win many international competitions in USA and Europe.
