Steinway Artist Jerry Wong has earned critical acclaim worldwide for his eloquent artistry and refined musical style. Pulitzer Prize-winning critic Martin Bernheimer described him as possessing “sensitivity and a finely-honed sense of style,” while the Orange County Register praised his “clean technique, forthright sound and a straightforward approach to classical textures.” His concert career has taken him across the United States, Europe, and Asia, with performances at distinguished venues such as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Severance Hall, Opera City Hall in Tokyo, the National Concert Hall in Taipei, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Wong has been featured on international broadcasts including Finnish National Radio, Nippon Television (Japan), Radio Video Mediterranean (Italy), and leading U.S. programs such as WQXR’s Reflections from the Keyboard and WWFM’s The Piano Matters. He has released three solo recordings on the MSR Classics label, including acclaimed albums of works by Prokofiev, Debussy (Of Motion and Dance), and Liszt (Of Love and Longing), earning praise for his poeticism, insight, and exceptional pianism.
A dedicated chamber musician, Mr. Wong has performed at festivals such as Kent Blossom, Josef Gingold Chamber Music Festival, and Pacific Music Festival (Japan), and has collaborated extensively with members of The Cleveland Orchestra. He has also recorded with artists including clarinetist Dennis Nygren, flutist Derek Jones, and soprano Melissa Davis.
Mr. Wong studied at Indiana University, the Peabody Conservatory, and the Manhattan School of Music under renowned teachers Menahem Pressler, Ann Schein, and Byron Janis. He served on the faculty of Kent State University from 2003 to 2019, where he developed a vibrant studio of international pianists. He has presented masterclasses and lectures across North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, and contributes regularly to The Piano Magazine as International Column Editor. Currently, he is Associate Professor and Head of Keyboard at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music in Australia.
